About Volunteering at COV

Why Volunteer at COV?

Children of the Valley offers meaningful volunteer opportunities in partnership with the paid staff to live out our mission of providing positive, life-changing experiences to the low-income children and families that we serve together. Our volunteer program strives to provide:

  • A nurturing environment for volunteers to utilize their unique skill set, although we provide an inclusive place for all volunteers regardless of race, skill set, or education.
  •  Opportunities for professional growth and development through our on-going training classes.
  • Active recruitment of volunteers from our community to reflect the cultural diversity of this region.

What’s In It For You?

Volunteering offers both personal and professional development opportunities such as:

  • On-going training in your particular volunteer role
  • An opportunity to impact your local community
  • Volunteering can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction
  • Gain valuable work experience
  • Possible letter of recommendation and/or references
  • Accrue volunteer hours

Who Can Volunteer at COV?

In a typical year we partner with local middle school and high school students to volunteer in the following areas: homework tutor, snack prep, and assisting with enrichment activities. This is an opportunity for students to earn volunteer hours, learn job skills, and give back to the community. Teen volunteers will need to complete the Teen Volunteer Agreement in addition to the volunteer application below.

We also partner with local college students to volunteer in many areas. The last two years we had the Skagit Valley College Baseball Team of 40 members volunteer on a regular basis. This is a great opportunity to teach our students a skill such as baseball. It encouraged 16 of our COV students to join the Mount Vernon – Conway Youth Baseball League. We have also had many college students intern at COV who are interested in pursuing a career in education.

Finally a large group of our volunteers are retired professionals. They have great insight to help our students and our staff. We often have retired teachers, military members, and business owners who can teach our students some great lessons. The opportunities are endless! Please share with us what skill, interest, or talent you would want to teach our students.
